3 Bible Tips: What Is God's Holy Spirit?
Jesus Christ is cultivating supernatural "fruit" in the lives of His disciples. To understand that miraculous effect, we must first understand the ultimate source—the Spirit of God.
1. The Holy Spirit is "the Spirit of God" and "the Spirit of Christ." Having God's Spirit in us is the very thing that defines a true Christian, a child of God.
"But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His" (Romans 8:9).
2. God uses the power of His Spirit for all of His miracles, and the greatest miracle is the transformation of the human heart.
"Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit" (Ezekiel 18:30-31).
3. How does a person obtain the forgiveness of sin and the gift of the Holy Spirit?
After the crowd asked "What shall we do?" Peter said, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission [forgiveness] of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).
