3 Bible Tips: Getting the Most Out of a Sermon
What can we do to insure we get the benefits God intends out of the biblical sermons we hear?
1. Pray for the ministers and the messages.
"Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct" (Hebrews 13:7).
2. At church services, listen attentively and discuss and reflect on the message with brethren afterward.
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:24-25; see also Malachi 3:16).
3. Act! Ask "What shall I do?" based on this sermon, and then do it.
"Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Men and brethren, what shall we do?'… Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers" (Acts 2:37, 41-42).
