3 Bible Tips: The Archangel Michael
In addition to Gabriel, the Bible mentions two other angels by name: Michael and Lucifer. What does the Bible tell us about Michael?
1. Michael is called a great prince, who is guardian of God's people.
"At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book" (Daniel 12:1; see an example of how Michael helped Gabriel against the spiritual prince of Persia in Daniel 10:12-13, 21).
2. Michael is called an archangel (chief angel), yet he would not revile even the devil. Jude uses this example to show we should not speak evil of dignitaries.
"Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you!'" (Jude 9).
3. Michael leads God's army against Satan, who loses and is cast down to earth.
"And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him" (Revelation 12:7-9).
