3 Bible Tips: The Fifth Commandment
1. Learning how to work together harmoniously—to build loving, lasting relationships—should begin in the home.
"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you" (Exodus 20:12).
2. Parents should lovingly teach their children. Children should honor and obey their parents and receive God's reward.
"‘Honor your father and mother,' which is the first commandment with promise: ‘that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.' And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:2-4).
3. Learning to honor our parents will help us learn to honor all people.
"Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king" (1 Peter 2:17).
