3 Bible Tips: The Third Commandment
1. The Third Commandment covers misusing God's name in any way.
"You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name" (Exodus 20:7, New Revised Standard Version).
2. Instead we should respectfully praise God's name.
"I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable" (Psalm 145:1-3).
3. As Christians, we must show respect for Christ's name by not doing anything that would reflect badly on Him.
"Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: 'The Lord knows those who are His,' and, 'Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity'" (2 Timothy 2:19; see also Matthew 5:16).
