3 Bible Tips: Being a Light
Jesus Christ called on Christians to be examples or "lights." How?
1. Do good things that will help others thank God.
"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:14-16).
(As a balancing factor, Matthew 6:1 warns against doing good for our own glory.)
2. Loving other people is part of living in God's light.
"He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides [lives] in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him" (1 John 2:9-10).
3. We don't have our own light, but must reflect the light of Jesus Christ, "the light of the world."
"Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life'" (John 8:12).
