3 Bible Tips: Conscience
1. Properly informed, our consciences can lead us to repentance.
"To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me...
"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me" (Psalm 51:1-3, 10; see also Acts 2:37).
2. We must not allow our consciences to be seared.
"Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron" (1 Timothy 4:1-2).
3. If we strive to maintain a good conscience by sincerely and humbly obeying God, we won’t need to worry about accusations from others.
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed" (1 Peter 3:15-16).
