3 Bible Tips: The Ninth Commandment
1. God tells us not to lie.
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" (Exodus 20:16; see also Colossians 3:9).
2. Instead God wants us to speak the truth—in love.
"But, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ" (Ephesians 4:15).
3. We need God's help to overcome deceitful hearts.
"The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds" (Jeremiah 17:9-10, New American Standard Bible).
