3 Bible Tips: Pursuing Peace
1. God is looking for peacemakers as His children.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Matthew 5:9; peace doesn't come naturally—it takes pursuing, Psalm 34:14).
2. Live peaceably. This means leaving revenge to God and overcoming evil with good.
"If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,' says the Lord. Therefore ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.' Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" (Romans 12:18-21; see examples in Matthew 5:38-45).
3. Righteousness (obeying God's laws) and God's wisdom lead to peace. Envy and self-seeking lead to confusion, fights and "every evil thing."
"For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace" (James 3:16-18).
