3 Bible Tips: Lessons From Pergamos and Thyatira—Don't Compromise
Last time we looked at Jesus Christ's message to Smyrna. The third and fourth messages to the churches of Asia Minor were addressed to Pergamos and Thyatira. What lessons do these messages have for those who have ears to hear today?
1. To emphasize the point that Christians must be careful not to sin through compromise, Jesus used three examples of people who compromised God's instructions: Balaam, Jezebel and the Nicolaitans.
"But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hateā¦
"Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols" (Revelation 2:14-15, 20).
2. When we see we have compromised God's laws and teachings, we must repent.
"Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth" (Revelation 2:16).
3. Christ promises great positions of service to those who will overcome sin and endure to the end.
"And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations" (Revelation 2:26).
